How to Stop Rootkits

1). Download and install Microsoft's RootkitRevealer (see References). This software works on every version of Windows since Windows 2000.
2). Exit out of all open applications. In addition to slowing down the scan, running other processes could lead to false positives.
3). Open RootkitRevealer.
4). Click the "Scan" button.
5). Wait for the scan to complete. This could take up to an hour. Do not do anything on your computer while the scan runs.
6). Highlight the rootkits found when the scan completes and click "Remove."
7). Restart your computer.
8). Repeat the scan to ensure the rootkits were successfully stopped and removed.
