My Favorite Candles Bring Back Memories

My favorite candles are the ones that smell like something from my past.
Maybe it's the apple blossom scent that used to hang over the back yard of my parents house in the spring.
Maybe it's the smell of flowers outside the bungalow we rented on our first vacation to Hawaii.
Maybe it's just the citrus and pine scent of the winter holidays that can be remembered in a moment by lighting up the right candle.
The scents take me back to those fine times and make me smile.
I like to use the scent of candles to create a mood in my home.
I burn candles at least a part of everyday, and the scent I use depends on what I am trying to achieve as far as the mood or feeling in my home.
Lavender candles are so relaxing; I like to use them in the evening or when something exciting in a bad way has happened.
Peppermint scented candles make me wake up and feel fresher, so they are nice in the morning or when I want to exercise.
Grapefruit or lemon scented candles are nice for waking up as well.
I like cinnamon or other spice scented candles to warm up the room when the weather is getting cold, and nothing beats the smell of a ocean scented candle for setting a cool mood in the summertime.
If I'm in a romantic mood, or want to get someone in a romantic mood I like to use rose, lilac, orchid, or other really strong flowery scents, although I've heard tests show men are attracted to vanilla, grapefruit and pumpkin scents! Of course the light of the candles makes the mood too, so although I love to scent the house with candles, the light they give off at night makes the house seem smaller, warmer and more intimate.
Things appear softer and it enhances the feeling of calm and rest that I want to give my family in the evenings.
I don't have a particular brand of candles that I fancy, I just smell all the possibilities and look for the ones that have the freshest, strongest smell.
I don't like to get a whiff of anything that seems artificial when I smell a candle, I'm looking for a "real" scent.
I do think Yankee Candles are good, and Pier One Imports carries some really nice smelling candles.
Both of these companies have candles in many sizes and their candles tend to have a very nice strong smell, you know when you burn them you will be able to smell them all over the house.
Discount chunk candles are the very best in candles but also hard to get.
