- 1). Load the photo you want to add snow to onto your computer.
- 2). Open GIMP. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate and open the photo you loaded.
- 3). Go to the "Layers" panel and click on the "New Layer" button. Go to the toolbar and change the colors to the default black and white. Use the "Paintbucket" tool to fill the new layer with black.
- 4). Select "Filter" from the menu and choose "Noise." From the options, choose "RGB Noise." Make all the amounts .50, except for the "Alpha," which should be left at 0. Click "OK."
- 5). Go to the top of the "Layers" panel and change the "Mode" to "Screen." Then select the "Scale" tool and enlarge the snow to make the flakes bigger.
- 6). Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save As." In the dialog, rename the file and click "Save." This will leave the unaltered version intact.
