- 1). Unplug the machine's power cord.
- 2). Remove the washer top or swing it upward to reveal the flow filter tube. This process is slightly different for each washing machine, but there should be two latches on the right and left sides of the machine that you can press with a flat-head screwdriver and push toward the back of the machine. Pushing these back will allow you to pull up on the washer top.
- 3). Pull out the flow filter tube and then the agitator. These are not held in place with screws, so you can simply pull them out.
- 4). Remove the agitator bearing from the transmission. On some machines you will have to unscrew the bearing, while on others you will have to press down the agitator bearing's latch and pull out the bearing to remove it.
- 5). Unscrew the bolts that attach the basket to the transmission. Remove the basket.
- 6). Unfasten the clamps that hold the transmission hub to the boot. Remove the boot. Depending on your machine, you may need to remove the screws holding the clamps in place.
- 7). Remove the bolts that hold the transmission to the washer's frame.
- 8). Place the transmission upside down on a work bench.
- 9). Unscrew the nut that holds the main pulley to the transmission shaft. Remove the main pulley.
