How to Replace Brake Pads on a 1993 Yukon

    • 1). Park the GMC Yukon on a level surface. Set the parking brake and place wheel chocks in front and behind the rear wheels if the front brake pads are being changed, or in front and behind the front wheels if the rear brake pads are being changed.

    • 2). Loosen the lug nuts with the lug wrench by turning the wrench 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn on each nut.

    • 3). Lift the end of the vehicle with the jack and place jack stands under the axles.

    • 4). Remove the lug nuts. Remove the wheel and place it flat on the ground, out of the way.

    • 5). Remove the two bolts holding the brake caliper in place with an Allen wrench. Remove the brake caliper. Be careful not to damage the brake line that connects to the caliper.

    • 6). Remove the brake pad from the caliper by pulling on the two clips that hold the brake pad in place. If the brake pad is stuck to the caliper, use a screwdriver to pry the pad from the caliper.

    • 7). Place a small amount of silicon grease on the back of the new brake pad. Attach the new pad to the caliper. Make sure the clips holding the brake pad are secure.

    • 8). Reattach the caliper with the Allen wrench. Replace the wheel and tighten the lug nuts most of the way. Remove the jack stands and lower the Yukon. Tighten the lug nuts completely.

    • 9). Repeat the steps until all four wheels have new brake pads.
