- 1). Prepare the cement surface for stain application by cleaning it. Apply a cement degreaser to the driveway according to package instructions.
- 2). Rinse the driveway surface clean of degreaser residue with a pressure washer. Allow the driveway to completely dry 24 to 48 hours before applying the stain. Sweep all dirt and loose debris off the surface with a stiff broom.
- 3). Measure the length and width of the entire cement driveway with a measuring tape.
- 4). Choose the color or colors of cement stain you wish to use. Purchase the amount of cement stain needed based on the driveway measurements.
- 5). Cover all nearby grass, plants or trees with a drop cloth to protect them from stain overspray.
- 6). Pour the cement stain into a plastic spray container. The spray container should have no metal pieces. The acid in the stain would corrode metal parts.
- 7). Apply an even coat of stain, working from left to right and using small circular patterns. Have a helper walk behind you with a stiff brush and work the stain into the cement. Go behind the helper and spray a thin coat of stain to cover the helper's brush marks, working from right to left. Continue this process until the entire surface of the cement driveway is coated. Refer to the acid stain directions for complete drying times -- usually up to 24 hours.
- 8). Dip a long-handled roller paintbrush into silicone-based penetrating sealer and apply an even coat to the driveway. Refer to sealer instructions for complete drying times -- up to 24 hours.
