- 1). Purchase a white mericlone orchid that is of blooming size or almost blooming size. If it is too small, it could take years to flower, according to Susan Taylor of BellaOnline.com.
- 2). Grow your white mericlone orchid in an area with plenty of light, either near a sunny window or under white fluorescent lights.
- 3). Keep your orchid in a somewhat humid environment. Put the orchid pot on a saucer with pebbles and water, which help maintain a relative humidity of 45 to 65 percent. Mist your orchid with a spray bottle on dry and sunny days to maintain the ambient humidity.
- 4). Water the orchid only when the potting medium is dry. Use water that is warm or at room temperature. Fertilize every other watering using ¼ tsp. of fertilizer per gallon of water.
- 5). Find out from your orchid seller what species of white mericlone orchid you are buying. While the above steps apply to most common orchids, some species have different optimum light and temperature requirements. For instance, Phalaenopsis orchids prefer diffused light and temperatures of 60 to 65 degrees F. at night. Cymbidium orchids, on the other hand, can tolerate more direct sunlight even at noon but prefer cooler nighttime temperatures of 50 to 58 degrees F.
