Basic Ski Tricks For New Skiers

If you have started learning skiing and have made yourself aware of the basics of the sport, it might be the time to take your skill to an entirely new level. After you have learned to slide along the snow covered slopes, the next level is, performing some tricks when you are flying mid-air and are about to land. Of course, it's not just as simple as wearing your ski costume, ski helmets, impact shorts, and mouth guards, it involves a great consideration of your safety and knowledge of the right techniques. It also requires great practice and patience until you master the tricks you want to perform mid-air.

This article gives you an insight about certain freestyle skiing tricks you can perform. It is also assumed that you are well-versed with the basic ski techniques and know how to fall gracefully, side slip, kick turn etc. You should also have ensured your safety by wearing impact shorts and mouth guards before you try any of the tricks mentioned below. It would also be desirable if you can perform some basic tricks, such as standard ski jump, spread eagle etc.

Let's see how you can perform few freestyle skiing tricks.

Daffy

This trick involves performing a split with your legs when you are up in the air. After you have mastered jumping off the slope and have a fair idea about your height above the ground, you can try this one. Of course, you need to be protected with mouth guards and impact shorts to avoid any possible injuries upon a fall. To perform a daffy, you begin on a jump and put one of your legs at the back and another in front of you to perform a split when you're in mid-air. You should try a daffy only if you are sure that you are at a sufficient height in the air. You should be high enough to allow yourself some time to bring your feet together before landing.

360 (Three sixty)

This involves a complete 360 degree rotation in air. While performing this trick the main focus should remain on a safe landing after the turn. You should turn your head and shoulder in the desired direction of turn immediately after you take off. In the midair your body will complete a turn and you should then spot when and how you would land. You should land such that you can bear the impact easily.
