Skin Irritation

• The most common side effect associated with Dermovate is irritation at the application site. The patient may experience burning, dryness, itching and redness. The effects are usually temporary.
  
  

Other Application Area Effects

• Long-term use of Dermovate may cause localized skin discoloration, prominent fine blood vessels, skin thinning, stretch marks and excessive hair growth.
  
  

Systemic Side Effects

• Applying Dermovate in large amounts to large areas of skin, or on raw or broken skin, may result in the body absorbing more of the medicine. This can cause systemic side effects including acne, gastritis, gastrointestinal ulcers, and a decrease in natural adrenal hormones.
  
  

Considerations

• To avoid irritation, patients should avoid getting Dermovate in or near the eyes, nose or mouth.
  
  

Pregnancy Concerns

• Because it can be absorbed by the body, Dermovate should not be used during pregnancy unless considered essential. If used, it should only be applied to small areas of skin for short amounts of time.
