Things to Do Around Whitehall Terminal in NYC

    Staten Island Ferry

    • At Whitehall Terminal, one can take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. This five mile boat ride will give you a ride from New York City to Staten Island across upper New York Harbor. While on the Ferry, you get a spectacular view of the city skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Additionally, you can see various bridges, such as the Brooklyn Bridge and the Verrazano Bridge. One of the best parts about the Ferry is that the ride is free.

    Statue of Liberty

    • From Battery Park which is next to Whitehall Station, you can board a boat which will sail to the Statue of Liberty. The monument, which is actually a national park, features a museum at the base which contains the history of the statue and interesting facts about how the monument was built. In addition, visitors can now go inside the statue and get a glimpse of New York from the inside of the monument.

    Ellis Island

    • From Battery Park adjacent to Whitehall Station, board a boat and visit Ellis Island. Ellis Island features a museum which contains artifacts of the thousands of immigrants who passed through on their way to America. Additionally, there are computers inside the museum which allow you to search for your ancestors who may have been at Ellis Island. The museum also features special exhibits devoted to all different nationalities and offer a fascinating look at what items immigrants left behind. The museum itself is housed in the main building where immigrants were officially received and registered. In the late 1990s, the museum was restored to its original condition and just the building alone is magnificent and worth the trip.

    Within Walking Distance

    • Within about a mile or so, you can visit Wall Street with its many financial institutions and see the outside of New York Stock Exchange. In addition, you can visit Ground Zero where the World Trade Center once stood. Additionally, you can visit Battery Park which features a great park which usually has child-friendly balloon vendors and other entertainment throughout the area.
