- Whether you love the great outdoors, love to shop or just relax, Lake Conroe has something for everyone. Set on 22,000 acres of land in the Piney Woods in East Texas, Lake Conroe offers outdoor adventures such as hiking and camping, art galleries in the downtown area, 11 golf courses and plenty of shopping.
- Rent a kayak or boat with water skis from one of the rental companies along the lake. If you're more of a thrill-seeker, rent a jet ski. Other water sports include wake boarding, parasailing and windsurfing. The kids will enjoy sliding into the water on inflatable water slides or jumping on a water trampoline. Try your hand at fishing; Lake Conroe has plentiful catfish and black bass. At the end of the day, take a dinner cruise on the Southern Empress Riverboat, and enjoy southern cooking and dancing.
- The downtown Historic District is full of art galleries, theaters and live entertainment. See a show by the Crighton Players at the historic Owen Theater or a performance by the Conroe Symphony Orchestra. Be sure to check out the art galleries featuring local artists. For true bargain shoppers, the Outlets at Conroe has over 40 stores offering name brand outlet discounts. Enjoy a dinner downtown at Villa Italia for an upscale Italian meal before heading out to The Corner Pub for live blues and jazz.
- Grab your backpack and go hiking or biking in the woods surrounding Lake Conroe. Lake Conroe is adjacent to the 161,508-acre Sam Houston National Forest, which offers plenty of hiking trails.
The 128-mile Lone Star Trail is the most well known. There are also several trails for mountain bikers. Bring your camera and take pictures of the wildlife, flowers and trees you encounter. Visitors may also camp out in select areas of the park.
