- 1). Turn off the water by turning off the main water supply for your home. This can be done by turning the main water valve counter-clockwise.
- 2). Locate the existing drain/vent system that is connected to the kitchen sink.
- 3). Unscrew the PVC pipe that is connected to the trap. The trap is the U-shaped section of PVC pipe. Unscrew the pipe by hand or use an adjustable wrench. Disconnect the trap and set it aside.
- 4). Unscrew the PVC pipe that runs to the pipe coming through the wall from the vent stack. Turn the pipe by hand or use an adjustable wrench. Disconnect the pipe and set it aside.
- 5). Connect a new section of PVC pipe, from the kitchen sink drain kit, to the pipe coming in from the vent stack. Tighten the pipe connection by hand or use an adjustable wrench.
- 6). Attach a new trap, from the kitchen sink drain kit, to the PVC pipe connected to the vent stack and the PVC pipe from the kitchen sink. Tighten the connections on the trap by hand or use an adjustable wrench.
- 7). Turn on the water to complete the project.
