- The HVAC system allows the entire home or business to be heated or cooled at one time, rather than using window units or space heaters that only change the temperature of an individual room.
- A typical HVAC system has many components that work together. An outdoor compressor cools the air by sending the coolant chemical to an "A coil", which looks like two radiators leaning on each other. As the air is forced through the A coil, it is cooled. The furnace is usually located inside the house, produces heat and also runs the blower to cool air. The heated or cooled air is sent to each room through a series of tubes called supply ducts. The air is recycled from the room and returned to the furnace through other ducts called returns.
- The ability to heat or cool the entire house or business at one time saves running time, time to heat or cool the entire house, and therefore saves on the cost of heating and air conditioning.
