- 1). Open the trash compactor's drawer by lifting the lever on the top of the door or by pressing the foot pedal to unlatch the drawer, then pull the drawer the rest of the way open.
- 2). Arrange the steel items on their sides in the middle of the compactor drawer.
- 3). Close the drawer.
- 4). Run a compactor cycle if the drawer is at least half full. Turn the key-knob to "Start," then let go. (Depending the make and model of your compactor, you may have to turn the key-knob to "On," press "On," then press "Start.")
