- 1). Examine the inner ring of the tire, closest to where the rubber meets the tire. Wear glasses or use a magnifying glass if you have trouble reading the information printed there.
- 2). Search around the inner rim until you find a series of letters and numbers that starts with the letters "DOT." This number indicates the manufacturer of the tire, the plant that made it and the type of construction. The last four numbers of the series also show the age of the tire; record these numbers for each tire.
- 3). Look at the first two numbers in the series of four to find out the week the tire was made; the second two numbers will show you the year. For example, the number 2608 would indicate a tire made during the 26th week of 2008.
