- 1). Unscrew the two guide bar nuts with the wrench. Loosen the chain's adjusting screw by turning it counterclockwise with the screwdriver until the chain sags beneath the guide bar. Take off the guide bar cover, the guide bar and the old chain. Wear leather work gloves when removing and installing chain.
- 2). Hold the guide bar up by the tip. Wrap the new chain around the guide bar with the chain's teeth pointing forward. Place the guide links of the chain into the guide slots on the bar. Pull down on the bottom of the chain to secure the chain against the bar.
- 3). Loop the rear of the chain around the drive sprocket on the engine. Lay the bar and chain down flat against the metal bar posts. Hold the bar and chain steady. Refit the guide bar cover. Finger-tighten the bar nuts.
- 4). Tighten the adjusting screw with the screwdriver until the chain is tight against the bar. Tighten the bar nuts the rest of the way with the wrench.
