How to be a Perfectionist and still .. Fail

Success without fulfillment is failure- A.Robbins

Although your perfectionist inner voice has the positive intention of making you give the "best" of yourself in most situations, its manifestation reflects low levels of self-esteem in the area where you wish to be the Queen of perfectionism! Perfectionism gives you the illusion of superiority; the illusion that you are in control!

The truth is that this unconscious behavior is self-destructive because you are not yourself; you are constantly living in a state of anxiety and, in the worse cases, perfectionism can upset your physical balance or even lead to eating disorders, manic depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, or insomnia.

Perfectionism can cause chronic stress, self-doubt, fear and limitation.

It hinders your creativity and most of all stops you from being in tune with who you really are, and so it builds a wall between you and the limitless prosperity ahead of you.

Some of the beliefs behind perfectionism are:

I am not as good as…
    I am not perfect as I am…
    I am less than…
    If only I could…
    If only I had…
X  or Y are better than me, how come they can do it and I cannot?
    What if I fail?

Being in a state of anxiety robs you of quality of life, so even if you have succeeded thanks to the positive intention of the perfectionist inner voice inside you, you end up tired, exhausted and empty inside, when the goal is reached.

So how would you define this? Success or failure?

Complete this test and measure your level of perfectionism:
  1.     I never do things by halves; I need to do things in the best possible way, now!
  2.     I had better not take action because if I do I know I will fail.
  3.     I hate myself when I make mistakes; I cannot stand it when others make mistakes either.
  4.     I struggle to get where I want, and when I get there I am exhausted and not motivated anymore.
  5.     I procrastinate / I am in urgency mode when things are not done the way I want (the 2 extremes denote low self- esteem in this specific situation).
  6.     I seldom meet deadlines / I always meet deadlines early (The 2 extremes denote low self-esteem as in the above case).
  7.     Success is always a function of hard work, in my case.
  8.     Every single detail counts, details matter and they determine the level of my success.
  9.     The solutions are outside of me; I do not know how to rely on my inner wisdom to make decisions.
  10.     How can I succeed if everything is not under my control?
  11.     I need to struggle before I can relax; it has always been that way for me!
  12.     I'm never just good enough; only perfection is good enough!

Knowing that your emotions are the result of your inner critic's voice, how can you still your inner voice when you're caught in the "perfectionist voice" trap?

If you heard your best friend having this same negative conversation, what would you tell him or her in order to relax and motivate them at the same time?

What would your "realistic personality" answer to the "inner critic personality"?

Knowing you are perfect as you are now, in what way would you move towards your goal – a way that is different from the "perfectionist's" behavior and that is fun, relaxing and encouraging?

What if you knew with certainty that you are already perfect as you are now, with what you have, with who you are, at this very moment, and that you already have built-in all the resources you need to be loved, noticed, appreciated and successful?

What would you tell yourself? How would you behave, as your realistic "dissociated" personality?

Was there a time when you succeeded easily in what you wanted to do without working so hard? What qualities did you use when this happened?

Take a minute and answer these questions, bearing in mind the goal or goals you are struggling to achieve for which the perfectionist "takes control" over the realistic personality in you.
