Solutions for Undercooked Smoked Sausage

    Put It in the Oven

    • One of the best ways to fix an undercooked smoked sausage is to throw it into the oven. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and once heated, place the sausage on a stainless steel pan or on a pizza sheet. Let the sausage cook for five to 10 minutes. When the sausage looks done, take the sausage out of the oven and cut in in half to ensure the sausage has cooked evenly in the middle and is no longer undercooked.

    Cook It on a Stovetop

    • The quickest way to remedy an undercooked smoked sausage is to cook it on a stove top. This can be achieved by heating a pan or a skillet with about 2 tsp. of oil over medium heat. Once the oil has been spread around the pan, add the sausage. Let the sausage cook until it browns, making sure to flip sides every three to five minutes. Cooking a sausage on a stove top can be done in under 10 minutes and is one of the easiest solutions to fixing an undercooked smoked sausage.

    Throw It on the Grill

    • For those that are handy with a grill, putting a smoked sausage on a grill is a way to fix an undercooked sausage. Grilling the smoked sausage will ensure an even heat distribution throughout the whole sausage and it will cook quite quickly. A good indicator the sausage is done on a grill is when the sausage sizzles and starts to pop. To test to see if it is cooked, cut it in half or puncture it just enough to see if the inside is still raw.

    Dispose of It

    • If the meat has sat undercooked for longer than five minutes, chances are the meat is contaminated. If this is the case, disposed of it immediately. Reheating undercooked meat will not kill certain bacterias that have had time to grow and can cause vomiting, an upset stomach and other serious problems associated with food poisoning. Realizing a piece of sausage is undercooked immediately and throwing it back on a heat source is the only solution; It is unsafe to reheat an undercooked sausage that has been sitting around over a long period of time.
