- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button on the IIS 6 server. Click "Administrative Tools," then click "Manage Your Server." A window opens with several options to configure the server for local and Internet management.
- 2). Click "Internet Information Services" to open the main IIS console manager. In the left panel, right-click the Web server name and select "New Web Site." The link starts a wizard to create and set up a website.
- 3). Type a name for the site in the first window and click "Next." Select an IP address for the server. You can also choose "All" to use any IP for the website. Click "Next." Click the "Browse" button in the next screen. Select a location on the hard drive where you want to store all website files. Click "Next."
- 4). Choose the permissions for the website. For most public websites, check off only the "Read" option. This allows users to read files, but they are not able to delete or edit your code. Click "Next," then click "Finish." Notice the website is available and configured in the left panel.
