It has now been over a year since the London 2012 Olympic Games. In a Valued Opinions„ survey members of the British public were asked what they believed the country's chances were of hosting another global sporting event. In the online survey opinions were mixed, from some being very hopeful to others not being too sure and even a few being certain the country's moment in the spotlight had passed for good.
Alongside the Olympics, the world's countries unite for a range of other sporting events. Each nation bids to host at least one of these events every time they come around.
In the near future, the world can look forward to some of the following global sporting events:
€ Glasgow in Scotland will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games
€ Sochi in Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics
€ Brazil will host the 2014 FIFA World Cup (Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022)
€ The UK will host the 2015 Rugby World Cup
€ Australia and New Zealand will host the 2015 Cricket World Cup
€ France will host the UEFA Euro 2016
€ Rio in Brazil will host the Summer Olympics 2016

Online Survey Looks At Britain Hosting The Olympics Again
The 2012 Olympic games were really the pride and joy of Britain two years ago, alongside the Queen's diamond jubilee. With so many positive reviews across the globe, it would seem unsurprising that the British people would believe their country could have the opportunity to host the Games again at some point in the future. However the online survey revealed that 1.8% of respondents believe the country will never host another big sporting event. Not just the Olympics but any other event. As mentioned above the UK will host the 2014 Commonwealth games and the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but surely that cannot be it for Britannia?
3.4% of participants in the survey were convinced the country's chances of hosting another Olympic based event in the next 20 years or more was unlikely. This includes the summer, winter and Paralympic games. However, these were just a minority of the views expressed.
59% of the respondents said the country could host the summer Olympics once again. A further 26% felt even more hopeful that Britain's changeable climate would not prevent them from hosting even the winter Olympics.
Hopes For Global Sporting Events In Britain
The online survey respondents expressed great hopes for other global sports events happening in the coming decades too. 59% of people said Britain could host the European Cup at some point.
More than half of the respondents also believe that the nation could host the Cricket World Cup. With countless cricket grounds set beside stunning landscapes across the country and a history of hosting the first three competitions, it's no wonder 58% of respondents believe the country can do it again. It has already been confirmed that England and Wales will host the 2019 event but that's not to say it couldn't happen again in another decade or two.
Another grand sporting event close to the Olympics is the Commonwealth games and Scotland has almost finished preparations in their hosting city of Glasgow for 2014. England last hosted these games in 2002, so to some it may seem unlikely that any other apart of the United Kingdom will get the games anytime soon. Surprisingly 66% of people in the survey believe the Commonwealth Games will return once again.
In conclusion, it appears evident through this survey that Britain is a highly suitable venue for many global sporting events and its residents are ready and waiting for the next one. With insightful statistics such as this, the nation can only hope as they bid for events in the future that the people's opinions from this survey will not go unnoticed by the sporting community.
