Diets Don't Work

We went out for a meal with some very old friends on Saturday night. When we arrived Sophie announced with a glum face that she was "on a diet"; she needed to lose lots of weight prior to going on holiday in mid July. Clearly I was a bit miffed that she wasn't following the Thinking Thin approach but I swallowed my pride and consoled myself with the fact that this would make an ideal blog post!

The 'diet' which was 5 days old was evidently really tough. Sophie couldn't have anything that was on the menu and said that she was permanently "starving" and "struggling" with her energy levels.

So, just how much longer is she going to be able to continue, I wonder?.....

Why Diets Don't Work

This example is the perfect example of why diets don't work:-

1. They are often approached from a short-term perspective - pre a holiday or a special occasion

2. They are therefore often very extreme with lots of banned elements like alcohol, puddings and chocolate
3. They often involve drastically cutting calories meaning we're hungry all the time
4. The lack of fundamental fuel to our bodies means we lack the energy to successfully function as a human being
5. In other words, they make our lives a misery!!

No wonder we always fail!

Diets don't work. End of story.

What Does Work

Low GL Foods

The only way to lose weight sensibly and sustainably whilst feeling healthier than you have ever done before is to follow a low GL (Glycaemic Load) eating plan for life. Low GL foods even out your blood sugar levels avoiding energy peaks and troughs and consequent food cravings, whilst dramatically reducing the stress on your system.

Mindful Eating

If you combine this with mindful eating - being totally aware of what you eat, why you're eating and how much you're eating, whilst savouring every mouthful - you are well on the way to easy weight loss and a happier, healthier life.
