- 1). Prep the area that you have planned for the furnace. Clear the floor of obstacles and check to make sure the ceiling that you are going to hang the furnace off of will support the weight of the furnace.
- 2). Unpack the furnace and locate the holes on top that are designed to support the furnace.
Measure the holes and get two all thread rods to fit the holes. The larger the rods, the more weight they can support, so the bigger the better. - 3). Use a lift, scaffolding or a hoist to lift the furnace to the height that you want it. Be careful to consider clearances below the furnace and the direction you want the furnace to face.
- 4). Attach the angle iron to the ceiling at the studs or the beams. Furnaces are heavy, and the angle iron will support the weight, so the angle iron must be securely and safely fixed to the ceiling with lag bolts.
- 5). Slip the all thread rods through the holes in the angle iron. Have a washer and a nut sandwiching the angle iron on each side. Do the same for the holes in the top of the furnace. This will keep the nuts form accidentally coming unscrewed.
- 6). Consult the manual for the necessary clearances needed from the ceiling and anything below the furnace. Turn the nuts on the rod to adjust the height as necessary. Check for level and tighten down the nuts on both sides to secure the furnace in place.
