- 1). Keep as few applications open as possible while you are using Internet Explorer. The strain of having to handle numerous demanding programs can cause your processor to shut down taxing ones, like graphic-heavy web browsers.
- 2). Enable the extra safety features on your antivirus software. This feature scans your IE activities in real time while you are searching to avoid making IE crash to protect your computer once a problem has made its way through.
- 3). Turn on the pop-up blocker feature from the IE "Tools" menu. This will minimize harmful or excessively complex pop-ups from loading and sapping the processing power from your computer, which initiates crashing.
- 4). Keep a maximum of only seven windows at a time open when using the browser because each window requires a lot of processing power to load and keep open. More than this and your computer will likely be struggling to keep them all running.
- 5). Choose the plain or basic view offered by your mail client. These light versions of your inbox will allow you to access your mail without all of the unnecessary graphics.
- 6). Go to "Settings" in IE and select "Security." Raise each of the security options as high as you can without limiting the functionality to keep harmful sites from even loading in the first place.
