• 1). Locate a used table saw. Good resources include the newspaper, pawn shops, Craigslist, or eBay.
  
  
• 2). Find out how much the table saw weighs. The rule of thumb is that the heavier the table saw, the better quality. It is common for a good quality table saw to weigh 500 to 1,000 pounds.
  
  
• 3). Find out the brand name and model number of the table saw. Some well known brand names include Powermatic, Grizzly and Delta.
  
  
• 4). Find out what size motor is in the table saw. A larger motor will cut thicker wood easier. A good quality table saw will have either a 3 horsepower or 5 horsepower motor. The more horsepower the motor has the more expensive the table saw will be.
  
  
• 5). Use the Internet to research the model of table saw and read reviews from other people that have used it. Find out the new retail price as well what price the used ones are selling for.
  
  
• 6). Schedule a time to take a look at the table saw. Ask the seller to give a demonstration on how to use the table saw. Make sure the seller fully raises and lowers the blade, as well as tipping it side to side. Ensure the fence has a full range of motion and slides smoothly.
  
  
• 7). Use your research and observation of the saw's performance to negotiate a fair price.
