Crossing Your Barrier to Experience More Joy and Success

Playing it safe is a very dangerous place to be when you are trying to optimize your potential.
Stretching beyond our familiar zone and going after that top prospect, entering into a new market, going after funding, speaking in front of that group, or starting that company can all be rather daunting endeavors albeit very rewarding.
It is not who you think you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not.
Your thoughts can create an invisible barrier.
That barrier holds you back by containing the familiar and the predictable.
So, how do you move past the perceived barrier that prevents you from experiencing the desired life that exists for you on the other side? Because we are creatures that tend to do more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure we develop the habits and patterns of avoiding the pain of going beyond the imagined fence to pursue our quest and achieve our victory.
Envision the dog wearing a custom programmed collar that delivers a warning tone and if needed a static correction should they test their limits by crossing the invisible electric barrier buried in the ground.
The dog can see what is on the other side of the fence that it wants and desires.
However, after enough negative reinforcement it finally settles on staying within certain boundaries and forgoing the experience of freedom and achievement that is only inches away on the other side.
The warning tone the dog hears is akin to the internal dialogue we hear of why it's not safe to go for what we really desire.
The zap the dog experiences is the let down or occurrence of things not going according to plan (temporary failure) that comes with the territory of eventual achievement.
You must be willing to cross the line and experience the jolt if you intend on experiencing your bliss on the other side.
Metaphorically the jolt is actually what prepares you by increasing your capacity for being able to get to and enjoy the other side.
As the famed mythologist, writer and lecturer Joseph Campbell tells us, "We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.
" The unleashing of your potential lies in the willingness to let go of the familiar and predictable.
Joseph Campbell suggests that if we follow our bliss the universe will open doors where there were only walls; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else.
Be willing to let go and cross the invisible barrier.
Just be willing.
See you on the other side.
