- Keep stray tools from throwing a monkey wrench into your projects by organzing them on a pegboard.tools image by Marek Kosmal from Fotolia.com
Pegboards are known for their organizational properties in all parts of a home. Julia Child kept her famous copper collection on a blue pegboard wall in her kitchen. Martha Stewart often offers ideas for organizing a craft room with pegboard. But it's the workbench where pegboard had its start. Organize tools and other necessities in easy reach and clear view on a pegboard wall behind your workbench, and you'll improve your productivity and reduce frustration. - Use hooks to hold tools such as hammers and wrenches in their places. Try painting the outline or name of each tool directly onto the pegboard so that you know where each belongs. Hooks can also be used to hold coils of rope, twine, or hoses.
- Baskets and bins designed to install on pegboards are useful for holding small things like nails, screws, and other findings, as well as keeping like items, such as measuring tapes or utility knife blades together. Larger baskets can keep all the items needed for projects together, such as keeping a level, picture hangers, and a hammer in a basket that can be brought inside when needed.
- Small pegboard shelves can be used to hold bottles of glue, cans of oil, or containers of cleaners. Have more than one handyman or woman in your house? A longer shelf for each person can divide the pegboard so each has her own space. Shelves can also be strategically placed to support lighting.
