- 1). Cut off the spiders' food supply. Most spiders feed mainly on insects. Reducing the insect population around your home can lower the chances the spiders will stick around. Insects are naturally attracted to light and will flock to outdoor lamps. Lower your use of such lamps to keep insects away. Spiders are less likely to dwell in an area where the food supply has been greatly reduced.
- 2). Clear your yard of possible hiding places for the spiders. Spiders like to shelter in dark, covered areas. Clean up debris and garbage outside of your home and trim back shrubs and hedges to discourage spiders from taking up residence in your yard.
- 3). Place insect traps around your yard and in strategic places where the spider might be tempted to enter your house. Insect glue boards will trap the spider and kill it through starvation.
- 4). Remove any webs that you discover in your yard or garden. This will reduce the chances of spiders laying eggs and increasing the population. Spraying a garden hose at the web will effectively destroy it.
