SaaS (Software as a Service) is an application hosted on a remote server and accessed through the Internet.
A simple example of SaaS is the Microsoft Hotmail, gmail and Yahoo mail.
In all these cases a vendor such as Microsoft as in case of Hotmail hosts all of the programs and data on a remote location which is available on demand through the (cloud) internet which can be accessed by a browser.
