- 1). Visit the WSDOT Metric Conversion Factors site or your favorite conversion-factor site and find the factor to convert feet to meters. The factor is 0.3048 meters/foot.
- 2). Write the following on a piece of paper: 25 feet x 0.3048 meters/foot.
- 3). Cancel like units that appear in both a numerator and a denominator by crossing them out. (Recall that the numerator is the top part of a fraction and the denominator is the bottom part.) In this case you will cross out "feet" in the first quantity and "foot" in the second quantity. When you write "25 feet," the units of feet are considered to be in a numerator because a whole number has an implied denominator equal to 1.
- 4). Write what remains: 25 x 0.3048 meters.
- 5). Multiply the two numbers on a calculator or on a piece of paper): 25 x 0.3048 = 7.62. You have converted 25 feet into 7.62 meters.
