Tips on Picking Cherry Blossoms for Your Wedding

    Blooms

    • Real cherry blossoms are ideal during spring, particularly March or April. Cherry blossoms bloom for roughly one week, leaving a short window for picking and using real blooms. Consider silk blossoms for your wedding decorations if you plan to make your own in advance or want a cherry-blossom wedding during other seasons. Plan your wedding outdoors under real cherry blossom trees during the spring if you want the full effect of the blooms with a natural aisle covered in wind-swept flowers and a canopy of the blossoms overhead.

    Color Twists

    • Chocolate brown with white or pink or both is a typical color combination that celebrates the natural colors of cherry blossoms. However, other color combinations also are associated with cherry blossoms if you want something a bit different. Red, white and chocolate brown or turquoise and chocolate brown are common variations. If you want something daring and bright, you can utilize turquoise and a vibrant shade of pink. Use the color combination that best fits your style and wedding venue.

    Decorations

    • Soft, romantic decorations that add to the natural look of cherry blossoms can contribute to your wedding. Hang gauzy white or light pink tulle from the ceiling or string up paper lanterns in white and pink or with cherry-blossom motifs for an indoor wedding. Set the tables with candles and submerged white orchids for an intimate effect or create large centerpieces using oversized vases full of dark-brown twigs and branches with twinkling lights or cherry blossoms. The blossoms can be paper, beads, silk or fresh flowers.

    Details

    • Small details that correlate with the colors, blossoms or culture will complete a cherry-blossom-themed wedding. The aisle or tables can display a trail of real or silk blossoms. Cherry blossom candles, candle holders or stationery will set the scene and the mood. Decorate the cake with silk or edible cherry blossoms surrounded by silk petals or stationery with images of the blossoms. Spray a light mist featuring the scent of cherry blossoms to stimulate another sense.
