- 1). Design a monogram. Use a word processing program to select the font type size and color. The monogram can include the first initial of the bride and groom alone, in combination with the last initial or the last initial alone. Dress the monogram up with clip art or purchase stencils.
- 2). Print the monogram. Use the darkest print setting. For font sizes larger than one page, you can print on several pages and tape them together. Alternatively, save your design to a disk or zip drive and take it to a professional printer for single sheet printing. Once printed, trace any stencils onto the monogram using a thick, black marker.
- 3). Tape the printed monogram to your work surface.
- 4). Lay the aisle runner over the monogram. Anchor the fabric to the work surface using clothespins or clamps.
- 5). Trace around the edges of the monogram using a pencil. Use a light pressure but keep the line dark enough to be visible. Once traced, remove the aisle runner and monogram from the work surface.
- 6). Cover the work surface with wax paper. The wax paper will prevent the paint from bleeding onto the work surface and will not stick to the aisle runner.
- 7). Use acrylic paint to fill in the monogram. Fine tipped paintbrushes work best for outlining the letters. Wide tipped paintbrushes fill in the letters fastest. Work from top to bottom and left to right to avoid smearing the paint as you work. Work with one color at a time. Allow paint to dry for 3 or 4 hours before applying the second color.
- 8). Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours before carefully peeling the fabric from the wax paper.
- 9). Roll up the aisle runner and store in a plastic bag or garment bag until the wedding.
