- 1). Check the invitation to the bridal shower to determine if the host has stated a theme for the shower. Sometimes hosts will ask guests to bring certain kinds of gifts for the bride, such as a kitchen appliance or some other item for the bride's kitchen. Other hosts may encourage guests to bring items that may be useful to the bride on her honeymoon, such as beachwear, towels or sunscreen. If the bridal shower has a theme, plan to purchase a gift that coincides with it.
- 2). Determine if the bride is registered. Many brides and grooms create a registry of gifts at one or several stores. Couples who register can ensure that they do not receive duplicates of gifts and that they receive gifts that they truly want. If your bride is registered somewhere, go to that store or its website and view her registry. There may be items on her registry that you could purchase for her. If you do not know where she is registered, you can ask the host of the shower, a member of her bridal party or a close family member.
- 3). Consult with the host of the bridal shower for gift ideas. The host likely knows the bride well. She may have some suggestions on what kinds of gifts the bride would like to receive at her shower. She may also be able to give you some input on the bride's personal style.
- 4). Talk to other brides or recently married women who have had bridal showers. Ask them what their favorite gifts were and why. You may learn about unique and interesting bridal shower gifts from them.
- 5). Go to a department store. Department store employees are frequently asked for assistance in choosing bridal shower gifts; ask a salesperson if he has any recommendations. They also interact with a lot of brides and grooms who are registering for wedding gifts, so the salesperson might have good insight into what kinds of gifts are popular as bridal shower and wedding presents.
