- 1). Measure the depth of the hole you need to bore, and mark it on your drill bit or boring tool from the end of it. Draw a line all the way around the bit with a permanent marker or tape it with a brightly-colored tape.
- 2). Stand so you can see the depth of the bit while you bore the blind hole, and gauge visually when the bottom of the marking hits the top of your piece of wood.
- 3). Retract the drill and measure the hole. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with the same hole until you reach the proper depth.
- 4). Move on to the next blind hole you need to bore.
