- Start a blog. It could be about working moms, being unemployed or jogging, but it has to be well written and have enough interesting information that readers will subscribe to it. Advertisers will see it as a viable place to put ads; affiliates will want to connect with it; and blogging sites will want to associate with it. That's where the money comes in. One blogger claims to be making a six figure income from his blog; though, since Business Week reported in 2008 that there were 9 million blogs with 40,000 new ones popping up each day, not everyone can expect such numbers.
- Open a clothing store with all organic clothing, start a lawn service that only uses environmentally beneficial products or create a consulting business to help homeowners 'green' up their homes. The important thing is that green continues to be the way to get greenbacks, according to a December 2010 Entrepreneur article about upcoming trends in successful business ventures.
- Personal chefs cook for several clients and may make several dishes to freeze for later. Often their clients have dietary issues, according to the American Personal and Private Chef Association. Many report making between $200 and $500 a day. Most clients are two income couples, people pursuing careers and the elderly. According to the association, there are 9,000 personal chefs serving 72,000 customers, but that is expected to double over the next five years.
- Applying for college and scholarships is a specialized field that many parents haven't time to become well versed in. A college consultant, who makes sure the applicant meets deadlines, advises on applications and essays and can steer them toward the right scholarships, would be a life saver. According to a 2011 Bankrate article, college consultants earn between $60 and $300 an hour.
