- It is normal for your motor to run for long periods of time, especially if the refrigerator is new or if you have added a large amount of food to it. Hot weather and frequent opening of the door also cause the motor to run. Try increasing the interior temperature of the refrigerator. Check to see if the doors are completely closed. If the doors won't close, check to see if your refrigerator is level. An uneven floor will also cause the refrigerator to vibrate. Close any bins, and reposition food items that are sticking out too far. Clean the door gaskets with warm, soapy water, and coat with paraffin wax. Dirty door gaskets also cause your doors to stick. Clean dirty condenser coils, since they decrease airflow and put stress on the motor.
- If your Kenmore Elite 5778 refrigerator won't turn on, check to see if it's plugged into an outlet that is working properly. Try plugging in a different appliance into the outlet, and try turning that appliance on. Turn the refrigerator setting to the "On" position. Check your circuit breaker and fuses. Reset the circuit breaker if tripped, and replace blown fuses. Your refrigerator will not turn on if it's in the defrost cycle. It takes about 30 minutes for the cycle to complete. Wait for the cycle to complete, and try turning the refrigerator back on. Call for service if these solutions do not work. If your interior light doesn't work, turn it to the "On" position, and change out a burnt-out bulb. It is normal for your refrigerator to make some noise.
- If your icemaker is not producing any ice, check to see if the door is completely closed. Allow up to 24 hours for a new icemaker to produce ice. If the ice cubes are very small, change the ice cube size selector to a larger size. Check to see if your water shutoff valve is in the "On" position and that it's not clogged. Old ice may have a strange taste. Throw it away. Never store food in the icemaker bin, and clean your refrigerator, freezer and ice bin on a regular basis. If your water has a high mineral content, add a filter to your water supply line.
- Avoid opening the doors too often, and try decreasing the interior temperature setting. Check the air vents, and remove any items blocking them. If you see moisture in your refrigerator, check to see if the refrigerator just completed a defrost cycle. If not, tightly repackage your foods, and remove any moisture from the exterior of containers.
