- 1). Load the crossbow bolt into the crossbow. Make sure the bolt is either field or blunt tipped, and does not possess a broad head.
- 2). Aim the crossbow at a patch of soft earth without rocks.
- 3). Pull the trigger to fire the crossbow. The soft earth will minimize the chance of the bolt breaking when it strikes, and firing the weapon will uncock the string.
