- 1). Plant arborvitae on the north side of a raspberry garden. Raspberries need lots of sun to thrive, and planting an arborvitae on the north side will cast little, if any, shade to the south.
- 2). Grow the arborvitae at a minimum of 10 feet from the raspberry garden. Arborvitae, depending on the variety, can grow to a width 10 to 15 feet, with branches growing close to the ground.
- 3). Care for the arborvitae's needs as you would if it were planted in any other part of the garden. For example, supply the soil with several inches of organic matter prior to planting. Water the arborvitae with 1 inch of water after planting and every week thereafter for the first growing season. Fertilize it every spring with an evergreen fertilizer per label instructions, but do not get the fertilizer on raspberry garden.
