- If the feet on the Kenmore washer have not been adjusted, the washer may not be sitting level in your laundry room. This can result in the washer moving and rattling as it completes the wash cycle. Depending on whether it is vibrating up against the dryer or something else in the laundry room, it might result in a loud, knocking noise. Adjust the feet by loosening the nuts on the legs so that you can lower or raise the legs to the proper height before tightening the nuts again.
- If you are washing items that have large metal buckles or snaps, you might hear a loud, knocking sound as the wash cycle progresses. This is because metal can bang up against the walls of the washer drum as it washes and spins. The result of this can be loud and resemble knocking, especially if you have multiple items in the washer with metal buckles and buttons. This is normal and should stop once the load of laundry is finished.
- If the floor in your laundry room where you keep the washer is not solid and sturdy, you can get a lot of noise when the machine is in use. To reduce or eliminate this loud noise, insert a piece of plywood under the washer that is 3/4 inch thick. This will give it a sturdy floor to prevent the knocking noise from happening.
- If you have a major component problem in the washer, you will experience a violently loud knocking and banging noise during the spin portion of the wash cycle. Unless you are an appliance repair technician, this is likely not a problem that you can fix on your own. For service, contact Kenmore or some other reputable repair shop.
