- 1). Perform an oil change on your car. Drain the used crankcase oil into a clean plastic container with a secure lid.
- 2). Contact local oil-change businesses or automotive service departments. These types of establishments perform dozens of oil changes on a daily basis, and they usually have an established business relationship with waste oil dealers.
- 3). Ask if the company accepts used motor oil from the general public for recycling. When you locate one that does, obtain directions to their location.
- 4). Visit the business and drop off your container of used oil. When the waste oil collection truck makes its next scheduled stop, your oil will be added to whatever quantity they pick up from the business. Eventually, your oil will end up at a reprocessing facility where it will be re-refined and recycled into other petroleum based products.
