Have you seen the movie A.
I.
- Artificial Intelligence by Steven Spielberg? It was one of 2001 summer blockbusters and went on to gross over $235 million worldwide.
Set somewhere in the future, this movie is the story of a very sophisticated boy robot called David, whose main program and purpose is to love and be loved by his parents.
David is assigned to live with a couple that was mourning the loss of their only son Martin, who had to be placed in suspended animation until a cure could be found for his rare disease.
Everything seems to be going perfectly until Martin is finally healed and brought back home.
With their real son back, the couple naturally begins to give Martin much more attention and preference than to David and jealousy begins to rise.
Trouble appears to happen everywhere and after many conflicts David's "mother" finally decides to abandon him in the middle of the forest so he can live with other rejected robots.
But even after being abandoned, David's program continues to run.
His whole purpose and mission is to love his assigned parents and to do everything he can to have them love him back.
With the memory of a fairy tale story he heard earlier, he begins to believe that if he finds the Blue Fairy she will be able to transform him into a real boy, just like she did with Pinocchio, and when he becomes a real boy there will be nothing to prevent his mommy from finally and truly loving him.
David is relentless in his pursuit.
Nothing can stop him and after many twists and turns, he finally finds his Blue Fairy - an unresponsive amusement park statue buried and abandoned on the bottom of the ocean.
Ecstatic and still believing, David puts himself in front of the statue and begins to make his wish.
He is so focused that he does not even seem to realize when he gets trapped and caged in that place.
He ends up spending the next 2000 years stuck in that same position, waiting for his wish to come true.
The movie continues and David, with the help of very special friends, finally gets what he was looking for.
The movie is a must see! But it left me with a question for you: Are you stuck in the Blue Fairy Curse? David's pursuit was undeniably genuine, beautiful and noble.
He just wanted to love and be loved.
But as a robot he could not see beyond his program.
His vision was so narrow that prevented him from seeing the countless opportunities that were flowing all around him.
David was so determined that he ended up getting himself trapped and spent over 2000 years stuck.
Nothing could sway him from his belief that what he was doing was the right thing to do and that by doing exactly that way he would finally get his wish granted.
Are you living like David these days? What are the wishes you have so dear in your heart but still haven't been able to realize? What are the goals you still haven't achieved but yet you still keep chasing them in the same manner as you did 5, 10, 30 years ago.
What are the right opportunities you just keep hoping will knock at your door someday? Be sincere with yourself: How long are you willing to continue on this same unsuccessful course? It is time for a new strategy.
It is time to forget the fairy tale and put your feet on solid ground.
It is time to be open to new horizons, find new possibilities, search for alternatives and get unstuck.
This is one of the core benefits of the coaching process.
When you work with a skillful coach on a regular basis, you are able to see your situation through a different angle and instead of wasting your energy banging on the same key over and over again, you can finally notice other options and other possibilities that may be right next to you just within your reach.
Are you willing to let go of your "program", look at your options face to face, open your eyes and find solutions? Let's work together to snap you out of the fairy tale and start right now building the ground for you to finally and truly have you wish come true.
