Getting Started

• Fog lights come in kits which include the fog lights themselves, mounting brackets and hardware, wiring, connectors, and instructions. The first step is to open the package and inspect the contents to ensure all of the necessary parts are there. Next, familiarize your self with the instructions as well as the parts. You will now need to determine the location in which you will be mounting the lights. Make sure the fog lights will not interfere with head lights, turn signals or any latches necessary for opening the hood of the vehicle.
  
  

Mounting the Lights, Switch, and Relay

• Mounting the lights will require attaching the bracket which holds the lights to the vehicle. Most times this will require drilling a hole to which the light bracket will be bolted. Many times this is also a ground point and may require any rubber or plastic material to be removed. Next, attach the lights to the brackets and tighten securely. You will also need to install the switch which turns the lights on and off to the dash or convenient location inside the vehicle. Once again, make sure the location does not interfere with other operations. Finally, many light systems will require a relay through which power for the lights will pass. This small box should be mounted inside the engine compartment preferably in a line between the lights, battery, and switch.
  
  

Wiring

• Most fog light kits are designed with the do it yourselfer in mind and the very least for an individual with little to no vehicle wiring experience. As such, kits are designed to be plug and go and often come with wiring harnesses pre assembled. Following the instructions, connect the hot side of the harness to a 12 volt source such as the battery or power point and to the corresponding relay point. Connect the light side of the harness to the lights and to the relay marked for the light or load side. It may also be necessary to connect a ground wire. The last step involves running the wiring to the switch inside the vehicle. Follow the path of other wiring through the firewall. Make sure all connections are secure and that all wiring is either taped or zip tied to ensure it does not interfere with any moving parts. Turn on power to the lights and adjust the beam.
