- 1). Install the new neck on the guitar body and tighten it down with four screws on the back of the guitar body. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Hook a tape measure on the nut of the guitar. The nut is the slotted ivory piece at the top of the neck.
- 3). Stretch the tape measure down to the 12th fret and write down the measurement. Double the measurement for scale length. For example, if the measurement is 12 3/8 inch, the scale length of the guitar is 24 3/4 inch.
- 4). Place the tape measure on the 12th fret and measure down on the guitar body 12 3/8 inch. This is the terminating point of the scale length, or 24 3/4 inch from the nut to the saddle.
- 5). Place the guitar saddle at 24 3/4 inch, centered on the guitar body. Position it perpendicular to the neck and trace around it. Mark the locations of the bolt holes. Drill the holes with a cordless drill and 5/16-inch bit. Insert the saddle posts.
