How to Replace the Fan in a Toyota Camry

    • 1). Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds after performing this step before beginning further work, if your Toyota Camry is equipped with an air bag. Next, disconnect the cooling fan and temperature switch wiring, carefully tagging each wire connector as you go to avoid confusion when reconnecting them.

    • 2). Loosen and remove the union bolt and remove the hydraulic line, if your vehicle model has the 1MZ-FE or 3VZ-FE engine.

    • 3). Unbolt the fan housing, which contains the entire fan assembly. Either replace the entire assembly or unbolt the fan from the shaft, remove the bolts holding the motor into the housing, and reassemble with new parts, as necessary.

    • 4). Bolt the fan housing/assembly in place on the radiator. Reconnect the electrical leads which you tagged in Step 1. If you have a 3VZ-FE or 1MZ-FE engine, reconnect the hydraulic line and tighten the union bolt to 47 foot pounds (64 Nm) of torque, and then bleed the system.

    • 5). Reconnect the negative lead on the battery. Run your vehicle to normal operating temperature. Check for coolant or hydraulic fluid leaks and verify that the engine fan is operating properly.
