Kitchen Interior Decorating Ideas

    Backsplash

    • Backsplashes add color, pattern and texture. Installing a backsplash will make your kitchen seem updated. Mosaic tiles add a contemporary touch to a kitchen. Metal backsplashes have more of a design feel. For a Tuscan kitchen, use rustic tiles to emphasize your theme. Make a faux backsplash by hanging small art pieces or plates under your cabinets. Protect the artwork from grease and ensure that the pieces can clean up easily.

    Kitchen Accessories

    • Your kitchen might not have a lot of excess counter space. In other rooms of the house you may decorate with flowers and candles but it might not be practical in a kitchen. Place various containers on your counters. Fill clear jar with pasta or grain for countertop storage that looks good. Hide sponges and dishwashing detergent in an attractive pitcher. Canisters can house flour and sugar. Put fruit in wire baskets for an inexpensive kitchen accessory.

    Kitchen Finishes

    • Kitchens often have limited wall space. If you have neutral wood or laminate cabinets, use a daring wall color. Red and orange can help stimulate appetite and because there is less wall space being painted, a bright color won't be too overpowering. Change out your cabinet knobs to a sleek stainless steel or oil rubbed bronze for an updated look.

    Theme Kitchens

    • You can incorporate many themes into a kitchen. Turn your kitchen into a coffee shop with purple, gold, and mocha paint colors. Use bar stools and a counter-height table to complete the coffee shop feeling. Transform your kitchen into a retro diner by hanging old signs on the wall. Put Americana memorabilia on the top of the cabinets. A vintage metal table with red vinyl chairs completes the retro look. Small oriental rugs placed underneath the table and by the kitchen sink provide a luxurious feeling to the kitchen.

    Cabinet Inserts

    • If you have glass cabinets in your kitchen you have a vast array of decorating options. Place chicken wire behind the glass for a country kitchen. Display decorative items in the cupboards such as vases, glasses and dishes. If you want a modern kitchen, use frosted film to create a contemporary space. Fabric behind the glass will hide any items that you don't want to be visible while giving your kitchen style.
