What Are the Health Benefits of Rooibos Tea?

The story of Rooibos began centuries ago in the Cederberg region of Southern Africa.
It is said that indigenous people of the area harvested the fragrant Rooibos bush, crushing the leaves with their primitive tools.
They would then leave them in piles to ferment before drying them in the sun.
Not much has changed since those early days as far as the general idea goes.
But the process has, of course, become more scientific, hygienic and efficient.
It's an interesting history to be sure, but what are the health benefits of rooibos tea? People nowadays are so into the health properties of the tea they drink.
And rooibos tea is no different.
Luckily, the health benefits are varied and they are many.
Firstly, rooibos is an herbal tea that contains no additives, preservatives, artificial colors or caffeine.
Studies done in both South Africa and Japan have shown that it can help with conditions such as insomnia, headaches, nervous tension and hypertension.
Rooibos is loaded with antioxidants and has a polyphenol count similar to that of green tea.
Much research has been done on antioxidants and their role within the body of destroying harmful free radicals.
Drinking rooibos tea will give you high levels of antioxidants and is a great inclusion if health benefits are important to you.
Other studies have shown rooibos tea to contain anti-spasmodic agents and to be helpful in treating colic and stomach pain in infants.
In South Africa, it has been used to treat symptoms of hay fever, asthma and eczema.
This wonderful tea contains minerals such as copper, iron, potassium, calcium, fluoride, zinc and manganese.
It also contains alpha-hydroxyl, which has been shown to be beneficial to your skin.
Although it is always a good idea to check with your doctor before using tea or other plants as medicine, rooibos tea really is a healthy drink that you can enjoy everyday.
