- 1). Check the label on your low voltage lights to determine the maximum voltage they need to illuminate. Check the label on the transformer you intend to use to check the maximum voltage output it produces. It's essential that the voltage from the transformer doesn't exceed the voltage the lights need, otherwise they will blow.
- 2). Check the end of the wires from the lights have bare internal wire showing. If not, then simply remove about ¼ inch of plastic off the ends of the wires using a knife or wire strippers.
- 3). Attach the two wires that extend from your low voltage lights to the two terminals on the transformer. Loosen the terminal connectors on the transformer using your fingers, or if they have screw connectors, use a suitably-sized screwdriver to loosen the two screws.
- 4). Slide one of the wires from the low voltage lights; it doesn't matter which wire, under one of the terminal connectors on the transformer. Again, it doesn't matter which connector. Tighten the connector using a screwdriver or your fingers.
- 5). Slide the remaining wire from the lights under the remaining screw connector on the transformer. Tighten the connector using your fingers or a screwdriver.
- 6). Set the dial on your transformer to the lowest setting, if it has variable settings. Insert the plug on the end of the transformer into the power supply. Turn on the power. Your lights illuminate if the transformer only produces a set voltage. Turn the dial to brighten the lights if it has variable settings.
