- 1). Lift the hood and prop it open. Loosen the drive belt on the engine according to that specific engine. A tension pulley usually tightens and loosens the belt. Pull the belt off the power steering pump. Place a drain pan under the pump. Remove the two or four bolts from the side of the pump using a box wrench. Once you remove the pump the fluid inside it will drain into the container. Loosen the nut securing the hose from the reservoir to the pump, using a box wrench. Pull the pump from the engine compartment.
- 2). Place the power steering pump on a clean, flat work surface with the pulley facing up. Connect the power steering pulley remover to the power drill and tighten the power drill's tip. The power steering pump pulley remover is a attachment that connects to the drill the same way that a drill bit does.
- 3). Place the power steering pulley remover on the power steering pulley. Set the drill the to reverse and slowly pull the trigger. The piece with the teeth will keep the pulley from spinning, and the socket in the center will turn the nut in the center of the pulley.
- 4). Remove the power steering pulley remover from the pump once the nut in the center of the pulley has been removed. Store the remover, nut and pulley in a clean dry place.
