Patience may hurt you but its still a virtue, goes the saying.
But first let's get this clear; by patience, I do not mean that kind of patience that could make you a patient in some hospital (through mental or physical illness) by failing to take action or the right decision where one is due.
The patience I write about is that faith-based forbearance of an unfavorable condition while all the time making the right decisions and taking the right action with a positive mental attitude! Let me share with you the inspiring story of former Georgia Bull Dogs quarter back D.
J Shockley.
Coming to the University of Georgia with a sterling High School reputation, Shockley could not play much during the first three years at his new college because of the presence of another high quality quarterback who preceded him in his college team.
With his skills, Shockley had the option to go to another college and make it big there but he would not.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) Georgia Sports Person of the Year "held fast to his values, dreams".
Shockley's story is better told by a January 2, 2006 AJC issue: "He's a quarterback.
He's also a throwback.
D.
J.
Shockley is a link to times and values we thought were gone forever.
He knows what it is to be patient.
He knows what it is to be loyal.
Did this guy sleep through the whole Me Decade or what? "Shockley could have gone anywhere and played more, sooner.
He stayed at Georgia because he wanted to b e a Bulldog more than he craved immediate gratification.
Shockley has admitted that, at times during his four-year apprenticeship -one redshirt season, three more of backing up the hugely successful David Greene - he was two days from transferring.
But he stuck it out, and now here he is.
" I was glad to know that the Atlanta Falcons drafted D.
J Shockley and he has since started playing for the Falcons this year and he is sure to make his mark on the NFL.
I had a flash of inspiration this morning; some wise thought that could best be rendered into English thus: Mankind is stubborn; all the time trying to show God which path He should take you in carrying you through this journey to eternity; yet you know that you cannot take a single step onyour own.
Be patient!
