- 1). Lay out a slice of bread.
- 2). Layer prosciutto, mozzarella, tomatoes or roasted red peppers and basil on top of the bread.
- 3). Add a simple sauce or a dressing to give the sandwich a little more flavor. For instance, spread a thin layer of pesto sauce on the top slice of bread. Alternatively, use a dressing made from olive oil, balsamic vinegar and garlic, or even just a drizzle of olive oil.
- 4). Season the sandwich with a dash of salt and pepper. In lieu of fresh basil, sprinkle some dried herbs like oregano or basil.
- 5). Place the sandwich on a grill pan, panini maker or nonstick griddle that's been preheated to medium heat. Press the sandwiches for 3 to 4 minutes per side or until the bread is toasted to a golden brown.
