- Begin your essay by engaging the reader with a strong thesis or mission statement. Insert attention-grabbing details and firsthand knowledge to the topic. Give solid background information on the topic and how you fit into it. Go on to describe your initial expectations and initial goal. End the introduction with just a brief mention of the conclusion. Everything that follows must be significant and relate to the topic according to you, the author.
- The body of the essay delves deeper into the topic. Describe your personal experience with the topic by reviewing in detail what you know and presenting your opinion and observations. Explain your perception and why you find your observations noteworthy. Provide supporting data to your cause with statistics, charts and other concrete primary sources. Apply these specifics to confirm your analysis, which is based on your observations. Arguments can be for or against the topic statement as long as you provide evidence to substantiate those views.
- Bring the essay to a close by summarizing the main ideas from the body of the essay. Clarify the reason you came away feeling as you did. Express what knowledge you have walked away with from the event, experience or project. Include your critical view as to what went right or wrong. Also state what or how the experience or project could have been improved. The conclusion should be just as strong and supportive as the introduction.
